Below are the Summer 2023 programs being offered this semester.

Programs are offered Monday - Thursday. "DROP-OFFS" are welcome!

S.T.E.A.M Learning

Note:  This is a 4 day program, Monday - Thursday (May 22nd - 25th)

Are you ready to have a blast learning?! In the first week of this program, students will learn the fundamentals of each category of STEAM learning! The following week will have students develop a deeper understanding of a STEAM category that they are personally drawn to! Mix elements and make things explode in Science! Learn the basics of computer coding! Work through the engineering design process with builds from the ground up! Get creative with personalized art projects! Review your math skills with the fun of magic combined in a super hands on adventure! So…which category gets your student to pick up STEAM?

Pokemon Science

Note:  This is a 4 day program, Monday - Thursday (June 5th - 8th)

Spark your imagination as we dive into a world 25 years in the making. Most pokemon were inspired by real-world animals and elements from the periodic table, perfect for our learning material. Drawing comparisons between the real life animals, plants, and elements Pokemon is based on and the actual Pokemon themselves, keeps students engaged and connected on a personal level with the curriculum and activities!  Research the science that inspired this children's world and take advantage of this unique and fun learning opportunity.  Students will engage in different hand-on experiments that work their imaginations and grow their team-building skills!

Minecraft Technology and Art

Note:  This is a 4 day program, Monday - Thursday (June 12th - 15th)

Minecraft Tech and Art provides each student with their own, JKW provided, laptop computer to work on class projects!  This program will have students working together in teams, using a student-friendly version of Minecraft, a popular, kid-friendly video game! Student projects will focus primarily on construction and real-world problem solving using the Minecraft physics engine! Even though each student will work on their own personal laptops, the projects and lessons need teamwork to make the dream work! Once their digital projects have been created, students will be provided with real-life building materials to turn their online creations into works of art! Oh, and as with all JKW Technology classes, students work on a secure server that provides a safe learning environment.

Lego Engineering 

Note:  This is a 4 day program, Monday - Thursday (June 19th - 22nd)

Ask any engineer in the world where they got their love for building and most of them will tell you, “Legos!” This program is designed to expose younger students to the concepts of the engineering design and building processes. Students will be using legos to solve challenging building projects using creative solutions. In engineering, you can never learn without doing! That’s why at JKW, we only utilize a hands-on, projects based approach to our curriculum. Throughout this program, students will learn and apply the structural details and beauty of buildings such as towers, bridges, roller coasters, and more!

Survival Calculation

Note:  This is a 4 day program, Monday - Thursday (June 26th - 29th)

Do you know what to do if something goes wrong on your next outdoor excursion? During this class you will learn practical tips and strategies that every outdoor traveler should know. We'll cover all survival essentials and their practical applications. Students will also learn about emergency priorities, how to make an emergency shelter, how to locate and access drinking water, how to spot edible and poisonous plants, how to tie various useful knots, and how to start a fire! Other activities include creating a working flashlight in the case of a power outage, figuring out ways to signal attention using creations such as smoke bombs, and creating a compass to help find your way home if you ever get lost! This class is designed for anyone who spends time outside and wants to build their confidence with outdoor skills. Our instructors emphasize the fun side of learning practical engineering skills for real life survival and those what-if scenarios!
